ABSTRACT

As a large family of transcription factors, the MYB family plays a vital role in regulating flower development. We studied the MYB family members in Lonicera macranthoides for the first time and identified three sequences of 1R-MYB, 47 sequences of R2R3-MYB, two sequences of 3R-MYB, and one sequence of 4R-MYB from the transcriptome data. Further, their physicochemical properties, conserved domains, phylogenetic relationship, protein structure, functional information, and expression were analyzed. The results show that the 53 MYB transcription factors had different conserved motifs, physicochemical properties, structures, and functions in wild type and 'Xianglei' cultivar of L. macranthoides, indicating their conservation and diversity in evolution. The transcript level of LmMYB was significantly different between the wild type and 'Xianglei' cultivar as well as between flowers and leaves, and some genes were specifically expressed. Forty-three out of 53 LmMYB sequences were expressed in both flowers and leaves, and 9 of the LmMYB members showed significantly different transcript levels between the wild type and 'Xianglei' cultivar, which were up-regulated in the wild type. The results provide a theoretical basis for further studying the specific functional mechanism of the MYB family.

ABSTRACT

The present study explored the consistency of the content proportions of active components of Aurantii Fructus and analyzed the influencing factors based on three-dimensional multi-component analysis. A total of 839 Aurantii Fructus samples in 65 research articles were analyzed using the three-dimensional multi-component analysis mode. The content data of flavonoid components(naringin, hesperidin, neohesperidin, narirutin, and nobiletin), coumarin components(meranzin and gluconolactone), and alkaloid(synephrine) in 386 samples which met the criteria of 2020 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia were extracted and adjusted to percentages, and the content ratios between components were calculated. The influencing factors of Aurantii Fructus quality were analyzed. The results showed content ratios of components as follows: neohesperidin∶naringin in the range of 0.4-1.2; narirutin∶naringin in the range of 0.02-0.16; hesperidin∶naringin in the range of 0.01-0.3; nobiletin∶naringin in the range of 0.000 588 3-0.069 68; synephrine∶naringin in the range of 0.02-0.042; gluconolactone∶naringin in the range of 0.001-0.01; meranzin∶naringin in the range of 0.000 4-0.035. The quality of Aurantii Fructus was closely related to the origin, variety, harvesting time, and processing method of medicinal materials. Harvesting time had a greater impact on the quality of Aurantii Fructus, and the origin and variety had a certain impact on the quality of Aurantii Fructus. The findings of this study indicated that the ratios between flavonoid components, flavonoids and coumarin components, and flavonoids and alkaloids fluctuated. The production base should optimize the varieties, harvesting period, and processing methods of Aurantii Fructus to provide a scientific basis for the production of high-quality Aurantii Fructus.

ABSTRACT

In order to explore the functions of genes of key rate-limiting enzymes chalcone isomerase(CHI) and chalcone synthase(CHS) in the biosynthesis of flavonoids in Lonicera macranthoides, this study screened and cloned the cDNA sequences of CHI and CHS genes from the transcriptome data of conventional variety and 'Xianglei' of L. macranthoides. Online bioinformatics analysis software was used to analyze the characteristics of the encoded proteins, and quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) to detect the expression of CHI and CHS in different parts of the varieties at different flowering stages. The content of luteo-loside was determined by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) and the correlation with the expression of the two genes was analyzed. The results showed that the CHI and CHS of the two varieties contained a 627 bp and 1170 bp open reading frame(ORF), respectively, and the CHI protein and CHS protein were stable, hydrophilic, and non-secretory. qRT-PCR results demonstrated that CHI and CHS of the two varieties were differentially expressed in stems and leaves at different flowering stages, particularly the key stages. Based on HPLC data, luteoloside content was in negative correlation with the relative expression of the genes. Thus, CHI and CHS might regulate the accumulation of flavonoids in L. macranthoides, and the specific functions should be further studied. This study cloned CHI and CHS in L. macranthoides and analyzed their expression for the first time, which laid a basis for investigating the molecular mechanism of the differences in flavonoids such as luteoloside in L. macranthoides and variety breeding.

@#AIM: To study the visual efficiency and characteristics of Top-down perceptual pathway in children.<p>METHODS: Totally 26 children volunteers in the outpatient department from January to June 2020 were selected. We adopted the photos of children's self-face as the Top-down perceptive fixation point pictures. The N75 time, P100 peak time, P100 amplitude and P100 repolarization time were recorded by graphic visual evoked potential(PVEP)examination.<p>RESULTS: Different visual perception pathway had no significant effect on the latency of N75, while different spatial frequencies have a significant effect on the N75 time. The latency of N75 was prolonged under high frequency spatial stimulation. The interaction between visual perceptual processing path and spatial frequency has a significant effect on the peak time of P100.Under Top-down condition, the peak time of P100 was significantly shortened under high-frequency spatial stimulus. Different visual perception paths and spatial frequencies had significant effects on P100 amplitude, and Top-down perceptual processing and spatial frequencies had significant effects on the time of P100 wave repolarization, while the interaction between processing paths and spatial frequencies had no significant effects.<p>CONCLUSION:Under Top-down visual perceptual, the visual conduction velocity and visual condition efficiency are improved in children's visual process.

ABSTRACT

Objective::To clone p-coumaroyl quinate/shikimate 3' -hydroxylase gene from Lonicera macranthoides, and analyze its bioinformatics and expression patterns with chlorogenic acid content, in order to speculate the functions of LmC3H1 gene from L. macranthoides. Method::The full-length cDNA sequence of LmC3H1 gene was cloned by reverse trascription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and RACE techniques. The bioinformatics analysis of the gene sequence was carried out by using relevant software.Real-time fluorescence quantification PCR(Real-time PCR) and HPLC were used to determine relative expression of LmC3H1 and content of chlorogenic acid in stems, leaves and flowers of different flowering stages. Result::The LmC3H1 (GenBank: MN177695) gene was cloned, and the open reading frame (ORF) of it was 1 533 bp in length and encoded 510 amino acids. The molecular formula was C2618H4134N718O727S22, the relative molecular mass was 58 005.32, and the isoelectric point was 8.92.It was a hydrophilic protein located in the chloroplast with a transmembrane region LLLIPAVLFLISLVYPLI, and contained a conserved domain CYTOCHROME_P450(433-422 aa) in cytochrome P450.The results of Real-time PCR showed that LmC3H1 was expressed in different degrees in stems, leaves and different flowering stages of L. macranthoides. In the flower development stage, the relative expression of white bud stage was the highest, followed by flower buds and white flowering stage. The ratio of flower to stem and leaf was the highest, and the relative expression of flower was the highest. The HPLC results showed that the content of chlorogenic acid increased from greenish white to golden yellow in flowering stage and golden yellow flowering stage. Among the different organs, the flower had the highest chlorogenic acid, and the stem showed the lowest. Conclusion::The LmC3H1 gene of L. macranthoides is cloned, suggesting that LmC3H1 might be involved in the biosynthesis of L. macranthoides chlorogenic acid. This study provides a basis for further studying the functions of the gene and exploring the biosynthesis and regulation mechanism of L. macranthoides chlorogenic acid, while laying the foundation for the genetic improvement of L. macranthoides.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To analyze the association between postnatal weight growth rate(PWGR)and the threshold disease of retinopathy of prematurity(TDROP)in preterm babies with very low birth weight(BW), and investigate the predictive ability of PWGR for the onset of TDROP.<p>METHODS: A retrospective cohort study. Totally 386 preterm infants in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University from January 2017 to December 2018, whose weight was less than 1 500g were enrolled in this study. The gender, BW, gestational age(GA), delivery mode, history of oxygen, Apgar score in 1-10min, <i>in vitro</i> fertilization infants, embryo number, neonatal pneumonia, PWGR with 4wk after birth, congenital heart disease were analyzed. The patients were divided into two groups: Non-ROP(NROP)group(<i>n</i>=298)and TDROP group(<i>n</i>=88). Multiple Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve were used to determine if the PWGR was independently related to TDROP development and if it was capable of predicting TDROP. This study determines the predict value by comparing the area under the ROC curve(AUC)of independent risk factors. <p>RESULTS: BW(<i>t</i>=2.264, <i>P</i>=0.024), GA(<i>t</i>=3.158, <i>P</i>=0.002), PWGR at 2wk(χ2=20.514, <i>P</i><0.001), history of oxygen(χ2=20.514, <i>P</i><0.001), had significant difference between two groups. Multiple Logistic regression analysis revealed that BW(<i>β</i>=0.699, <i>P</i>=0.016), GA(<i>β</i>= -0.631, <i>P</i>=0.039), PWGR at 2wk(<i>β</i>=-0.636, <i>P</i>=0.039), history of oxygen(<i>β</i>=-1.542, <i>P</i><0.001)were correlated to TDROP, and their <i>OR</i> were 2.013 \〖95% <i>CI</i>: 1.140-3.553\〗, 0.532 \〖95% <i>CI</i>: 0.292-0.970\〗, 0.529 \〖95% <i>CI</i>: 0.289-0.969\〗, 0.214, \〖95% <i>CI</i>: 0.113-0.404\〗 respectively. Further study showed that the area of PWGF at 2wk under the ROC was 71%, and its optimal cut-off points was 4.14g/d, its sensitivity and specificity were 70.8%, 65.9% respectively.<p>CONCLUSION: BW and PWGF at 2wk of very low BW preterm babies is an independent risk factor for TDROP, and has certain predictive value for the onset of TDROP.

@#Progressive reduction of visual field is the main feature in glaucoma patients.The paranoid personality and anxiety/depression characteristics of glaucona patients run through the pathogenesis and progression of the disease. The correlation between different visual fields and various cognitive components may lead to cognitive changes or different degrees of emotional disorders in the process of visual field impairment, while the emotional/psychological disorders in glaucoma patients with anxiety/depression as the main characteristics have negative effects on the range of peripheral vision and visual acuity. As a result of the interaction between body and mind, the speed and degree of visual impairment of glaucoma have characteristic changes. "Psychogenic error" or "functional error" will lead to the misjudgment of pathological damage of visual function. Attention to the interaction between mood disorders and visual field impairment in glaucoma patients has promoted the development of combined intervention strategies of body and mind on the course of glaucoma.

ABSTRACT

Objective To improve the biological fidelity of the thorax flexible body in the original MADYMO child human model, so as to further study pediatric thorax injuries of child occupant. Methods A finite element model of the six-year-old pediatric thorax was built by adopting the method of reverse modeling based on CT images. By replacing the thorax model with flexible body in MADYMO six-year-old human model, an improved human model containing biomechanical thorax model was developed. The model was verified by joint validation of two tests, including Kroell’s adult chest impact experiment combined with Irwin and Mertz’s scaling method, and Jun Ouyang’s thoracic impact test on pediatric cadavers. Results The response of this established thorax model was in good agreement with scaling method and cadaver test data, and the thorax model was much more accurate than the original flexible body model. The resilience of simulation model was consistent with cadaver test. Conclusions The validity of the model is verified, and can be further used in occupant injury analysis in vehicle frontal crash.

ABSTRACT

To study the pharmacokinetics characteristic of loganin, ferulic acid and stilbene glucoside in rat plasma after oral administration of Bushen Tongluo formula. The plasma samples were treated by using liquid-liquid extraction technique, the concentrations were determined by HPLC-UV. Johnson spherigel C18 column (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 μm) was adopted and eluted with the of mobile phase of methanol-water containing 0.01% glacial acetic acid in a gradient mode, with the flow rate at 1.0 mL x min(-1), column temperature at 30 degrees C and injection volume of 10 μL. According to the findings, loganin was determined at 235 nm, ferulic acid and stilbene glucoside were determined at 320 nm, with the sample size of 10 μL. The pharmacokinetic parameters of loganin, ferulic acid and stilbene glucoside were calculated by DAS 2. 0 software as follows: C(max) was (0.369 ± 0.042), (0.387 ± 0.071), (0.233 ± 0.044) mg x L(-1); t(max) was (0.226 ± 0.022), (0.282 ± 0.031), (0.233 ± 0.044) h; t(½β) was (6.89 ± 0.20), (10.73 ± 0.11), (6.93 ± 0.09) h; AUC(0-∞) was (1.91 ± 0.36), (3.22 ± 0.52), (1.52 ± 0.33) mg x h x L(-1); AUCO(0-t) was (1.62 ± 0.33), (2.58 ± 0.43), (1.30 ± 0.30) mg x h x L(-1); CL was (20.2 ± 4.0), (1.39 ± 0.23), (31.7 ± 6.9) L x h(-1) x kg(-1), respectively. The results showed that after the oral administration with Bushen Tongluo formula, loganin, ferulic acid and stilbene glucoside showed concentration-time curves in conformity with the two compartment model, with a rapid absorption, loganin and stilbene glucoside was excreted at a moderate speed, and ferulic acid was excreted slowly (but with the highest bioavailability). Bushen Tongluo formula can main maintain plasma concentration with three administrations everyday and so is suitable to be made into common oral preparation.

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate imaging and audiology features of temporal bone and analyze the classification and prevalence of inner ear abnormalities in children with sensorineural hearing loss.@*METHOD@#Children who were diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss were examined by high resolution CT and the inner ear fluid of MRI. And each chart was retrospectively reviewed to determine the imaging and audiology features.@*RESULT@#There were 125 patients(232 ears) found with inner ear malformation in 590 children with SNHL. About 21.71% of the inner ear malformation occurred in severe and profound hearing loss ears, and 12.85% occurred in r moderate hearing loss ears. The inner ear malformation rate in normal hearing ears were 13.59%.@*CONCLUSION@#CT and MRI examinations of temporal bone are important diagnostic tools to indentify inner ear malformations. Inner ear malformations are almost bilateral and hearing loss are profoud. Cochleo-vestibular malformations and large vestibular aqueduct are the 2 most frequent deformities. Among the children with SNHL, deformity rate in the severe and profound hearing loss ears is higher than that in moderate hearing loss ear. Inner ear malformations can exist in people with normal hearing.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the changes in the levels of inflammatory cytokines in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in rats exposed to silica dust.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Experimental rats were randomly divided into control group and three experimental groups (doses of dust: 15, 30, and 60 mg/ml), with 42 rats in each group. Each rat in the control group was treated with 1 ml of normal saline by intratracheal instillation, while each rat in the experimental groups was exposed to 1 ml of silica suspension by a single intratracheal instillation. Seven rats in each group were killed at 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after exposure, and then BALF was collected. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure the levels of interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, IL-16, macrophage inflammatory protein-1 alpha (MIP-1α), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The levels of cytokines in each experimental group were higher than those in the control group at any time point. In the early stage of exposure (day 1-3), BALF IL-1 level increased significantly with the increase in dust dose, and on day 14, BALF IL-6 and IL-16 levels increased significantly with the increase in dust dose; the levels of IL-1, IL-6, and IL-16 in the experimental groups reached the peak on day 14. There were significant differences in the levels of MIP-1α and MCP-1 between the experimental groups (FMIP-1α = 30.106, P<0.01; FMCP-1 = 17.193, P<0.01). In each group, the level of MCP-1 varied significantly at different time points (F = 0.618, P>0.05). On day 1-14, BALF TNF-α level increased with the increase in dust dose, with a significant dose-response relationship (P < 0.05). In each experimental group, TNF-α level reached the peak on day 14. On days 14, 21, and 28, the high-dose group had significantly higher BALF TGF-β levels than the low-dose group (P<0.05); on days 14 and 28, the high-dose group had significantly higher BALF TGF-β levels than the middle-dose group (P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>IL-1, IL-6, IL-16, MIP-1α, MCP-1, and TNF-α play a role in the development and progression of silicosis inflammation. TGF-β may be related to (related to; associated with; correlated with) fibrosis.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the epidemiological features of the pathogens responsible for prostatitis in the Changshu area, and offer some evidence for the clinical treatment of prostatitis.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>This study included 2 306 cases of prostatitis that were all clinically confirmed and subjected to pathogenic examinations in 3 hospitals of Changshu area from 2008 to 2012. Neisseria gonorrhoeae, mycoplasma urealyticum and chlamydia trachomatis were detected by nucleic acid amplification ABI 7500, the bacterial data analyzed by VITEK-2 Compact, the drug-resistance to antibacterial agents determined using the WHONET 5.6 software, and the enumeration data processed by chi-square test and curvilinear regression analysis using SPSS 19.0.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The main pathogens responsible for prostatitis were found to be Staphylococcus haemolyticus (30%), Staphylococcus epidermidis (12%), Enterococcus faecalis (9%), Escherichia coli (6%), Staphylococcus warneri and Staphylococcus aureus (3%), Mycoplasma urealyticum (8%), chlamydia trachomatis (5%) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (6%). Statistically significant increases were observed in the detection rates of Escherichia coli (chi2 = 17.56, P<0.05), Mycoplasma urealyticum (chi2 = 8.73, P<0.05), Chlamydia trachomatis (chi2 = 8.73, P<0.05) and Enterococcus (chi2 = 8.22, P<0.05), but not in other pathogens. The resistance rates of Gram-positive bacteria to erythromycin and benzylpenicillin G were both above 45%, but with no significant difference between the two, those of Oxacillin (chi2 = 10.06, P<0.05) and Cefoxitin (chi2 = 9.89, P<0.05) were markedly increased, but those of quinolones, gentamycin and clindamycin remained low, except rifampicin (chi2 = 11.09, P<0.05). The resistance rates of Gram-negative bacteria to cefazolin and ampicillin were relatively high (mean 57.3%), and those to ceftriaxone (chi2 = 11.26, P<0.05) and trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole (chi2 =11.00, P< 0.05) significantly high; those to amikacin, cefepime, piperacillin/tazobactam and imipenem remained at low levels with no significant changes. However, the resistance rates of mycoplasma urealyticum to ciprofloxacin (chi2 = 11.18, P<0.05) and azithromycin (chi2 = 9.89, P<0.05) were remarkably increased.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Gram-positive bacteria are the major pathogens responsible for prostatitis, but Escherichia coli, enterococcus and sexually transmitted disease pathogens are found to be involved in recent years. Quinolones and aminoglycosides are generally accepted as the main agents for the treatment of Gram-positive bacterial infection. However, rational medication for prostatitis should be based on the results of pathogen isolation and drug sensitivity tests in a specific area.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of arterial duct stenting in neonates with pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Eleven neonatal pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum patients received arterial duct stenting in our hospital from December 2007 to September 2010 were involved in this study. The average age was (8.20 +/- 2.90) days (ranged from 3 to 13 days). The average weight was (3.41 +/- 0.29) kg (ranged from 3.00 to 3.88 kg). The stents were selected according to digital subtracted angiography measurements. After checking for correct position by angiography, the balloon was inflated to expand the stent to desired diameter. Oxygen saturation was monitored, echocardiography was measured and stent diameter and location were observed by chest Xray. Patients were followed up at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months post procedure.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Stents were successfully implanted in all 11 patients. The preoperative peripheral oxygen saturation was (63.27 +/- 8.47)%, while increased to (82.73 +/- 5.59)% after alprostadil application and to (86.18 +/- 3.19)% after operation (all P < 0.01). After the operation, the peripheral oxygen saturation was higher than alprostadil application (P < 0.05). The intraoperative narrowest diameter of patent ductus arteriosus was (1.69 +/- 0.37) mm, the length was (16.72 +/- 2.37) mm. The internal diameter of implant stents was 4 mm, the length was (20.18 +/- 3.40) mm. After the operation, surgical B-T shunt operation was performed in one patient due to stent shift and pulse oxygen saturation decrease. One patient died post operation with unknown reason, another patient received stent balloon dilatation due to pulse oxygen saturation decrease at 4 months after the surgery. Pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum surgeries were performed in 2 patients at 5 and 7 months after stent implantation.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The neonatal pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum arterial stent implantation was a feasible and effective procedure and this method could be used as preferred treatment in pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum for neonates.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To compare the efficacy of midazolam and diazepam for treatment of acute seizures in children.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>One hundred and twenty children with acute seizures were randomly divided into two groups: midazolam (0.1-0.3 mg/kg) and diazepam treatment (0.3-0.5 mg/kg) (n=60 each). In cases with seizure recurrence or statural convulsivus, a maintenance dose of midazolam (1-8 mg/kg per hour) and a maintenance dose of diazepam (0.5-1 mg/kg per hour) or along with phenobarbital sodium were given in the midazolam and diazepam treatment groups, respectively. The therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The seizures were relieved in all cases from the two groups 10 minutes after administration of midazolam or diazepam. There were no significant differences in the average time of seizure control between the two groups. Five children in the midazolam group had seizure recurrence or statural convulsivus after 10 minutes compared with 13 children in the diazepan group (P<0.05). The time of seizure control averaged 40+/-32 minutes in the midazolam group compared with 69+/-24 minutes in the diazepam group after maintenance treatment (P<0.05). No midazolam and diazepam treatment related adverse events were observed.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Midazolam is safe and effective in the treatment of acute seizures in children. Midazolam appears to be a better option in the treatment of recurrent seizures or statural convulsivus than diazepam.</p>

ABSTRACT

We report here a case of pentastomiasis infection in a 3-year-old girl who had high fever, abdominal pain, abdominal tension and anemia. Ultrasound scanning of the abdomen revealed disseminated hyperechoic nodules in the liver and a small amount of ascites. Abdominal MRI showed marked hepatomegaly with disseminated miliary nodules of high signal intensity throughout the hepatic parenchyma on T2-weighted images; retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy and disseminated miliary nodules on the peritoneum were also noted. Chest CT showed scattered small hyperdense nodules on both sides of the lungs. The laparoscopy demonstrated diffuse white nodules on the liver surface and the peritoneum. After the small intestinal wall and peritoneal biopsy, histological examination revealed parenchymal tubercles containing several larvae of pentastomids and a large amount of inflammatory cell infiltration around them. The pathological diagnosis was parasitic granuloma from pentastomiasis infection.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To design a kind of adjustable triangle external fixator, and to use it for treating calcaneal fractures.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The external fixator was installed into extremity near the both sides of three Kirschner wires crossing the calcaneal tubercle, the lower end of the tibia and the first cuneiform. The support rod length was adjusted to ensure the Kirschner wires affecting the calcaneal tubercle, so the Böhler angle and anteroposterior diameter of the calcaneus were recovered. From April in 2003 to April in 2008, the external fixators were used to treat 34 patients with calcaneal fractures, including 30 males and 4 females, ranging in age from 19 to 54 years, with an average of 36.7 years. The Böhler angles were -5 degree to 15 degree, with an average of 13.5 degrees. According to Sander's classification, 2 patients were type II, 20 patients were type III, and 12 patients were type IV.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Thirty-four patients were followed up, and the duration ranged from 3 months to 4 years, averaged 25 months. The Böhler angle recovered to 30 degree to 40 degrees, with a mean of 32.5 degrees. The Maryland mean score improved from preoperative (24.76+/-15.05) to postoperative (83.26+/-16.81). Based on Maryland criteria, 8 patients got an excellent result, 21 good, 3 fair and 2 bad.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The adjustable triangle external fixator for treating calcaneal fractures has the following advantages : simple approach, good recovery, little reinjury and complications, effectiveness to recovery Böhler angle and anteroposterior diameter of calcaneal, which is an ideal method to treat calcaneal fractures.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effect of preoperative transcatherter arterial chemo-embolization (TACE) on the cell proliferation in Wilms; tumor.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Forty-one cases of Wilms; tumor diagnosed by histopathology were divided into two groups: in TACE group, 23 patients received TACE first and were operated 2 weeks later; in control group, 18 patients were operated alone. A comparative analysis of the pathological finding was made in two groups, and the expression of PCNA and VEGF in tumor tissue was detected by immunohistochemistry.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>The degeneration of tumor tissue such as tumor cell necrotic, broken, disappearance occurred in 17 cases of TACE group and in 4 cases of control group, respectively (P <0.01). The expression of PCNA in TACE group and in control group was 1/23 (4.3 %) and 9/18(50.0 %), respectively (P <0.01). VEGF was expressed in 7/23 (30.4 %) of TACE group and 9/18 (50.0 %) of control group (P=0.283).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>TACE can significantly inhibit proliferation and enhance degeneration of Wilms; tumor cells.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To assess the effect of the balloon valvuloplasty for congenital valvular aortic stenosis (AS) in children.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of twenty one children with AS accepted the treatment of percutaneous balloon aortic valvuloplasty (PBAV). One of them complicated with PDA underwent PDA closure by using Amplatzer occluder in the mean time. PBAV could not be accomplished in 3 cases because the catheter could not be advanced into left ventricle and PBAV was not performed in 2 cases due to the gradient pressures across aortic valves less than 50 mm Hg (1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa). The procedure was completed in 16 cases. The ratios of balloon/valve were 0.98 +/- 0.04 (0.92 - 1.10).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>13 cases had more than 50% gradient reduction (81.25%), 2 had 40% - 50% gradient reduction. The follow up period ranged from 3 months to 5 years. The gradient pressures rose to more than 50 mm Hg after follow up in 3 cases and they underwent repeat balloon valvuloplasty procedure or were operated successfully. There was no moderate to severe aortic insufficiency (AI).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The result of balloon aortic valvuloplasty showed the significant hemodynamic improvement with relative safety in pediatric patients. PBAV provides another choice in comparison with surgery.</p>
